Welcome English Speakers
My name is Carina Hartkemeyer (pronouns she/her). I am a clinical psychologist and a systemic psychotherapist in training. I offer psychotherapy in English to self-pay clients in Berlin-Lichtenberg or online.
Systemic therapy has been scientifically recognized since 2008 and is a distinct therapeutic approach, just like behavioral therapy or psychodynamic approaches. It was developed based on the experiences of family therapy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Freie Universität Berlin

When Should You Seek Therapy?
Sometimes we simply feel like we’ve tried everything to improve our situation, and nothing seems to be working. We feel at a loss, exhausted, or stuck. That’s when psychotherapy can be helpful. Together, we can systematically explore what has been keeping you from your goal so far and what you need to get closer to it again.
How does therapy work?
My most important role is to listen and be attentive to you and your life circumstances. Problems often arise in our interactions with others. That’s why, in systemic therapy, we also look at your environment: family, relationships, and work. Sometimes we work one-on-one. Other times, it can be helpful to involve key people in your life, such as a partner or family members. I see myself as a guide in your journey to find a good solution for your life.
How long does therapy last?
Ultimately, you alone decide what is helpful for you and when you are satisfied with a solution. So I’ll accompany you part of the way. In doing so, I rely on your feedback to know if we’re heading in the right direction. It’s important to remember: Psychotherapy isn’t a permanent solution, but a goal-oriented process with an end date.
The journey we take together can vary in length. We regularly review the duration of treatment together by assessing what has changed in the meantime. At the beginning, I recommend two sessions so we can define a clear goal together and get to know each other. To ensure a continuous process, it may be helpful to schedule weekly or biweekly appointments at the start.

Discrimination-sensitive
Every person deserves to be treated with respect and on equal terms. Experiences of social exclusion and violence find a safe space with me.

Queer-friendly and inclusive of Neurodiversity
Mindful support that respects diverse bodies, perceptions, identities, and desires.

We are our body
Using bodywork as a way to connect with our emotions. Through exercises, we can enhance self-awareness and self-regulation.

My Office
in Berlin-Lichtenberg
Möllendorffstraße 10, 10357 Berlin, 2nd entrance on the left
The entrance to the office is located on the left side of the building, next to a pedestrian passageway.
The office is located on the ground floor. The rooms can be reached by wheelchair or walker. Unfortunately, we do not have a wheelchair-accessible restroom.
You can reach the practice by taking the S-Bahn or U5 to Frankfurter Allee. From there, it’s about a 900-meter walk (approx. 13 minutes). If you take the Tram, get off at Loerperplatz and walk about 150 meters. A nearby bus stop is Möllendorffstr./Storkower Str.; from there, it is about a 400-meter walk (approx. 5 min).
Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment, as I may still be in a session beforehand.
